My Open Adoption Story
I have a very unusual adoption story. I was married when I was 18 and my husband was 21. Since we first got married we always wanted to have children. We found out in the first 2 yrs we could'nt have children. After trying fertility treatments and no successes we decided to adopt.
We were looking through the state to adopt and had started the process when one day my mom asked me to come to her home. When my husband and I arrived there was alittle package on the counter. My mom asked me to open it and when I did there was alittle baby outfit with a note attached: To baby girl (i'll say Jane) due September 29. I was'nt sure at first what was happening but when my mom explained everything to me, I was in shock. Here a relatives wife was looking to put her baby up for adoption. It was a bad situation, she was the 6th child. So we proceeded with adoption. Jane was born and we adopted her 6 months later. My story does'nt end there. Within the first 6 yrs of my daughters life I had kept somewhat of a relationship with her birht mother, pictures, a phone call every once in awhile, and a visit once in awhile. Well almost 2 yrs ago, my daughters birth mother was diagnosed with cancer, she was in the 4th stage so it did'tn look good. I developed a really close relationship with her and we became very good friends. I let Jane get to know her and her siblings. Well, my daughters ** stopped by my home and told me of a friend who's daughter is 15 and pregnant and wanted to give the baby up for adoption. Asked me if I was interested. So to make a long story short I adopted a son. It took a year and a half for his adoption, but he is ours. I also have my daughters 13 yr old sister, who we will eventually adopt. My experience as an adoptive mother has been rewarding. The only bad thing that happened is the day my son was born, the hospital threw me out. I was told I was'nt allowed in the hopsital until the baby was discharged. The social worker was very mean and cruel, I was treated like a criminal, and the birth mother wanted me there, and her mom. I dont know if they had the right to do that, but if so, the law should be changed. I would like any comments on that if possible.Share your story and read more stories.
