I know that not everyone has a good experience with adoption. I have been very blessed. I placed my son for adoption when I was 16. He is now 8 and has always known he is adopted. I struggled for some time when I got married (not the birthfather) and we decided to have a baby. I was afraid what the children would think, why one was kept and one wasn't. I did not tell my daughter and did not know that my son actually knew. We have always had a close relationship with the Aparents and I get to see him when I want. They have attended all of my daughter's birthday parties and we attend his.

Just before his 7th birthday, I had called to see what he needed. That is when his Amom told me how excited he was that he was going to get to see us. He had been telling all of his friends that were going to be attending that they were going to meet his sister! This was a shock, I thought I would not have to deal with this until several years down the road. Now I had to deal with it immediately. My daughter (then 4 1/2) had to know before the party. I cried alot. Was afraid she would be upset. She knew who he was but had always been told that he was just a special friend of the family. When I told her she was exstatic!! She wasn't mad or confused or resentful like I had expected. I have had the most wonderful experience with my open adoption and hope that there are others that share my feelings. I would recommend open adoption to anyone with any questions or doubts.
